The Author’s Adventure
14th January 2017 is the date for my authors talk to be delivered to members of the Royal Air Force Yacht Club. As readers of my books will know my hero is a keen sailor and in each of his three appearances in print there has been elements of sailing involved. On the 14th January I will no doubt have my sailing knowledge tested.
‘THE AUTHORS ADVENTURE’
This is the title of a talk I give to groups in which I describe the way I develop my plots, conduct research and build my characters. Next Wednesday, 1st June, I will be paying a visit to the Parish Rooms at Alverstoke in Hampshire to give the talk to ‘The Village People WI’ group.
As with my recent Madeira trip, this is something I am rather looking forward to as the benefits derived from explaining how I work include self analysis, that in turn makes me consider ways of improvement.

Richard’s early working life was as a construction engineer, a career that took him abroad to work in Zambia and Jordan for one of Britain’s leading consulting engineers. Returning home he joined a major japanese corporation, administering large civil and industrial projects in Europe, Africa and the Far East. It was during this period that he had the idea for his first novel and wrote the early chapters. A career change, to help run a small family business, gave him the time to read for a Masters Degree in Maritime Studies, a subject that had been of lifelong interest to him. It was due to the encouragement of his wife and friends that he took up writing again completing his first novel, ‘A Cast of Hawks,’ which was published in 2010. The sequel, ‘Batsu’, followed in 2012 and the third book in the Ian Vaughan thriller series, ‘Shadows in Sunshine,’ set in Madeira was published in January 2015. He is currently writing the fourth book, presenting further challenges for his hero to overcome.
Apart from writing he gives talks on maritime history and is a keen member of the RAF Yacht Club; when time permits he dabbles in water colour painting.
